Electrical Torque Check
In my experience as an RV Technician, the number one preventable cause of "thermal events" are loose wires in power panels and other devices. I have verified this anecdotal experience with a professional RV fire inspector, who said that loose neutral wires are the leading cause of fires in RVs today. I have personally replaced main power panels and Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) that have burned, at some level. Fortunately, the owners have all been safe.
Please note: this situation affects ALL RVs. This is not isolated to any one brand, make, or device. The problem lies within the thermal cycling of the neutral line (most often.) The great news is that these events are highly preventable.
Since I believe in being part of the solution, I am initiating a low-cost service to check your power panel wire torque and ensure the safest experience for you. If you have an Automatic Transfer Switch (your RV is either prepped for a generator or already has one) I can also address that device (see service details, below.) Because I also believe in teaching people how to do things they feel comfortable doing, you're free to watch, ask questions, and even video tape the service if you wish. I ask that you do not publish the videos without my consent.

At this time, this service is only offered at RV Rallies, OR in conjunction with other purchased services.

Cost: The cost of this service is $20 for the main power panel, and $25 if I also do the Automatic Transfer Switch.
Here's what the service includes:
-
I will shut off all RV power. This means the power pole, the solar panels (if equipped) and the batteries.
-
I will ensure all 120V Hot, Neutral, and Ground wires in your power panel are tight. I will also ensure all 12V wires are tight to the extent that I safely can. (If I'm unable to kill all 12V power due to no solar disconnect, etc., and cannot safely access items to torque, I will not risk your equipment or my safety to do the 12V side of the panel) Note that the main source of safety concern is the 120V side.
-
If your storage area is cleaned out to allow me to access the Automatic Transfer Switch (and you can point me to it- I won't have time to hunt for it.) I will also check the connections there. Not all RVs have these- only those that are Generator Prepped, or have a Generator. I will remove storage panels to get to it, but I won't have time to clean out the space to do so.
-
I will finish by restoring power to your RV, and ensuring all systems are operational.

To be clear, I cannot guarantee all dangers have been addressed, but I will be able to assure your main power panel and ATS (if serviced) are in safe condition.

Legal note: If a dangerous condition is found (damaged equipment, connections, etc.) I will be required to document it and will not be able to restore power until it is repaired properly. You will not be required to hire me to do it, but I will not restore power in an unsafe condition.
